Discover the North East

The Northeast of India is undiscovered, seven sister states that lend themselves to mystery and intrigue as the less discovered part of India. Their make-up adds to the fascination to explore. It is a region made up of the largest number of tribes in India, myths and stories abound, unique languages and cultures, architecture and food, it is as fascinating as it is unknown. Assam is perhaps the best known of these states, renowned for its tea, lending it the legend of sophistication, but also for the conservations of the one-horned rhino and one of the best National parks I’ve visited, Kaziranga, a place of truly extraordinary natural beauty and biodiversity. It also holds the record for having the largest number of tigers in a protected area anywhere in the world.  Majuli is the largest river island in the world which celebrates two unique cultures; the Mishing Tribe and the Vaishnavite Monasteries which have led to it being an extraordinary are for performing arts. Meghalaya has the two wettest places on earth, which leads to spectacular waterfalls, verdant scenery and the famous living root bridges built by the Khasi tribe an early style of indigenous architecture which now leads the way in sustainability.  The ancient Khasi myths also believe that certain forests belong to local deities and nothing can be removed from them. Used for sacrifices and prayers, these old sacred groves date back over a century.

This window into the NE truly is a journey of discovery, of myths and mountains, tea and tribes, textiles, arts, crafts and treks into a truly unique culture as fascinating as it’s people are welcoming.
