The Heartland of Central India

If I had to pick one, then Madhya Pradesh would have to be my favourite state. Where wildlife combined with relatively undiscovered destinations. One of the few places where you can still be virtually the only person visiting an incredible monument. The more remote parks here offer a wildlife experience like they used to be some 30 years or so ago.

Satpura Tiger Reserve is an undiscovered wilderness, which includes some of the finest tiger habitat in India, as well as supporting leopard, wild dog and sloth bear. It is a superb destination for those who truly love wildlife and are keen to have an immersive wilderness experience away from the crowds in the more popular reserves.

The next main destination is Maheshwar, where the first sight of the beautiful fort and tiered temples shimmering above their reflections in the waters of the sacred Narmada River, is something that no-one forgets. Not many tourists make it this far, which is a shame because it is one of the most atmospheric destinations in India.
